Bamboo Craft
For centuries, bamboo baskets have been an integral part of Japanese life, used to carry harvested crops, wash rice, and store household essentials.
Ibaraki Prefecture's Namegata City, nestled between Lake Kasumigaura and Lake Kitaura, is rich in natural beauty and known for its fertile lands. Agriculture, fishing, and livestock farming thrive in this area, which lies about two hours from Tokyo and is often referred to as "Tokyo's pantry."
Emi Seishi
A bamboo artisan based in Namegata City, Ibaraki. Emi personally harvests bamboo from the mountains, processes it into strips, and weaves it into baskets. As the only female artisan in Japan dedicated to preserving the traditional methods of bamboo basket weaving, she continues to create exquisite pieces, focusing on the natural beauty of fresh bamboo.
