Enishi – The Knot of Connection

Size: H32cm × W15cm

Please note that each piece varies slightly in color and size due to its handcrafted nature.

With its graceful yet warm presence, Enishi (縁, meaning “fate” or “connection”) is a decorative piece that expresses gratitude for the bonds between people. The central knot, crafted from woven straw, is inspired by the ancient Agemaki knot, which has been used for centuries as a symbol of protection against misfortune. This knot even appears in The Tale of Genji, a literary masterpiece from the Heian period:

"Like the Agemaki knot you so carefully tie, may our bond remain strong and everlasting." – The Tale of Genji

Enishi embodies the joy that comes from the connections we form—between people, objects, and experiences. Displaying this piece in your home is a way to express appreciation for these cherished relationships.

How to Display

Ensure that the knot faces forward when placing it.

The Natural Aging of Straw Crafts

Depending on the environment, the fresh green hue of the straw will gradually fade, transforming into the golden tones of harvested rice straw over time. We invite you to appreciate not only its initial vibrancy but also the graceful aging process that unfolds with the passing of time.
